hab-1Our house is coming along nicely.  Last Saturday there were crews from University and Salem-in-Ladue UMC’s, and most of the activity took place on the porch.  The beams were wrapped, caulked and painted.  The soffit was installed, and the brick front was begun.  The brick material is new this year, replacing the Nova Brick from recent years.  It looks great, and seems to go up more quickly.

We had some afternoon showers, and the weather was once again unseasonable cool.

20090711hab_blitz0038Our group of Methodist Churches completed a successful blitz last weekend.  Starting Friday from the subfloor, we erected the walls, installed the roof trusses, and almost finished sheeting the roof before the deluge on Sunday.  The east side siding is coming along as well.  We had plenty of volunteers and crew leaders each day, and were blessed with weather that wasn’t as bad as predicted in terms of heat.  Click here for more pictures.20090710hab_blitz0018

20090711hab_blitz0040On Saturday our new homebuyer, Emmetta Menard, came to the build.

Emmetta was originally scheduled to have a house in the first phase of the 2009 build. However, circumstances intervened, and she was bumped back to Phase Two.

We are so happy that Emmetta came out to the build during the blitz. She really was not obligated to come since she had put in her time on the Phase One Blitz and so was way ahead in her hours. Also, she had just started a brand-new job at Six Flags that very week, and even had to go to work on Saturday at three o’clock working through the evening.

To help her out, her two best friends, Lisa and Orr, showed up and worked alongside the whole crew as the framing went up on Emmetta’s house.

Emmetta’s family who will be joining her in their new home are sons Dustin (almost 17) and Austin (almost 14) and her six-year-old granddaughter, Mya. Emmetta is already planning to decorate Mya’s room in pinks and greens. Dustin and Austin will also each have their own bedroom, which will be fantastic.20090711hab_blitz0048

As always with things connected to a build, problems come up and need to be solved.  This time, we have learned that the Hardin family is not going to get the house our group is building.  While we wait to learn more about our new family, the Menards, we have gotten underway with the build.  In fact, we even have a new address:  it is House Number Eight, or 2930 Sheridan.

The first day of the blitz saw temperatures in the mid-80ºs, and a cloud cover.  The walls have gone up on schedule, and things are looking good.
